Swell Sculpture Festival

‘Hey, over there, do you see that lime green polar bear next to the neon whale and the cube-shaped ocean?’ Nope, this isn’t Limp Bizkit’s new album or the plot of a Kafka-esque fable. In all probability it’s a sentence never uttered before Swell Sculpture 2011 – and it all makes more sense when you realise we’re talking about an annual gathering of over 50 supersized contemporary sculptures lowered by crane onto the Currumbin shoreline. 2012 will mark the festival’s tenth anniversary with a strong crowd of 175,000+ every year and another rare opportunity for artists to create and exhibit their works to the scale they were imagined. Over 10 days of spring you too can peruse their local and international selection while squelching the sand between your toes, and best of all it’s free. Look out for twilight walks, artist talks and classes and the Swell Smalls Gallery and kids’ workshops.
