Joy Hysteric

Roma Blair brought us yoga. Scott Prince was our first footy heartthrob. But who is Melanie Tan in the history books of posterity? In 2004, at age 23, this trailblazing fashion advocate opened Joy Hysteric and introduced us to rare designers back when capital city slickers thought we were toothless savages in Flintstone rags. Not without irony, many customers from Sydney and Melbourne now readily point out how hard it is to find a better selection.

The Joy Hysteric inventory reads like the door list for a who’s who indie fashion event – Stolen Girlfriends Club, Alice McCall, Romance Was Born and more, with shoes from Beau Coops and Maurie & Eve. Joy customers couldn’t be wallflowers if they tried, and seven years on this is still the place for rock maidens, gypsy dreamers and intrepid fashion-forward types to stock their wardrobes with exquisite designer wares.
