Naked City Guide

J Vintage Retro

Living in a Queenslander = awesome. But what’s better? Converting a Queenslander into a shop with enough polished timber floorspace to invent a new Whip It-style roller derby maze trend. J’s 20-year-old owner has packed every sunny room with fashion, exhibitions, photoshoots and the odd bake sale. When she’s not here you’ll find Jess Hardy studying graphic design, making art or carting the crème de la crème of her stock to The Village Markets.

In store there’s a lucky dip of seasonal vintage-inspired frocks, shoes, accessories and knick knacks. There’s consignment wares from the Coast’s best dressed, with every room hung to the hilt with local art. A Queenslander isn’t a Queenslander without a house party – the hullabaloo you heard coming from that graffiti-ed James St stairwell was probably one of many exhibitions that went off here this year.
