Naked City Guide

Swingin’ Safari

Rumour has it you can hear the raucous soirĂ©es of yore if you press an ear against the fern-patterned vintage wallpaper of this old school 50s beach house. Begat by a 70s wine bar named Bacchus and the legendary Crab Cooker of the 80s, this charismatic tapas restaurant/bar is beach party incarnate and the South Pacific icon this address was destined to be. That’s without the randy sailors breaking into song, but considering there’s a tiki hut and a rack of costumes we wouldn’t rule it out on a humid night. Seven themed rooms separate the bohemian revelry into low-lit nooks brimming with club lounges and eccentric ephemera, and with healthy tapas and DJ beats flowing throughout, it’s long been the venue of choice for local identities pining after a few laid-back cold ones. Celebrate hump day (Wednesday) at Club Y open mic jam night, and on Thursdays 30+ somethings can revive the art of conversation over drinks and tapas.
